1- The tasks in February in the Vineyard are: Fertilizer and Herbicide Treatments.

2- Fund subscribers of the Vineyard:

The month of February is a good time for the application of cover fertilizers for the cultivation of the vine, in this way we prepare the ground so that it has a good disposition of nutrients in the budding in March and April.

Also, when applying it at this time, we take advantage of the waters that usually fall in February and March so that it dissolves and is available when necessary.

The vine’s fertilizer needs are mainly potassium , therefore the vineyard fertilizer must be rich in potassium, nitrogen (be careful with excess) and phosphorus in an assimilable form, especially in budding and flowering.

Ideally, these fertilizers have some magnesium.

A recommended complex fertilizers and amounts per hectare for rainfed vineyard grown.

Appropriate complex fertilizers for adult vineyards:

  • 12-12-17S-2  quantity 250-350 Kg / Ha Trade Name: NITROFOSKA
  • 4-6-12-2 Quantity per Hectare: 350-500 Kg / Ha
  • 8-4-10-2  Quantity per Hectare: 300-400 Kg / Ha

The formulations and recommendations are given, but the range of complex fertilizers on the market is very wide. You can look for similar formulations, as long as the potassium is high and the nitrogen low, and try to adjust the amounts.

3- Herbicides:

The use of herbicides is not authorized in the organic cultivation of the vine.

In order to keep the vine free from weeds during the remainder of winter and spring, in trellised plantations, herbicides are usually applied, between vines, since this is the inaccessible area for machinery.

Pre-emergence herbicides are increasingly used in trellised plots .

As their name indicates, they are herbicides, which act by forming an invisible layer, which prevents the weeds from leaving and therefore they must be applied before they are released or when they are very small.

These herbicides are residual and should not be used in plantations less than 4 years old.

Recommendations for the application of herbicides:

To facilitate the effect and effectiveness of the product, the treatment must be incorporated into the first centimeters of the soil by means of low pressure spraying.

The effect is much greater when the product (by means of a post-application irrigation or by rain) is diluted, forming a film impenetrable by weeds. The irrigation or rain period should not be carried out after seven days after the application of the herbicide.

The work carried out after the application of these herbicides can reduce the remaining effect of the treatments. If it is tilled in the area of application, the herbicide stops having its effect.

Spraying drift should always be avoided, as it can cause damage to neighboring crops.

Work at low pressure (2-4 atm. Maximum), with flat nozzles, never cone.

The products that can be applied are (active ingredients):

Oxifluorfen 24 %:

Apply in a normal spray directed to the soil, at a rate of 2-4 l / Ha, varying the dose depending on the weeds to be controlled and their state of development.

Broth volumes should be used over 500 l / Ha.

This herbicide will be used in pre-emergence of weeds, or very early post-emergence.

Fluometuron 23% + Terbutilazina 23 %:

Apply in a normal spray directed to the soil, at a rate of 3.5-4.3 l / Ha, varying the dose depending on the weeds to be controlled and their state of development.

Broth volumes between 200 and 400 l / Ha should be used.

This herbicide will be used in pre-emergence of weeds, or very early post-emergence.

Terbutylazine 55%:

Apply in a normal spray directed to the soil, at a rate of 2 l / Ha, varying the dose depending on the weeds to be controlled and their state of development.

Broth volumes should be used over 400 l / Ha.

It is recommended to mix with glyphosate.

Do not apply on very sandy or stony soils.
