Fruity, intense, light … These could well be synonyms easily associated with wine. However, there are others that you hear less about, such as the adjective quiet.

A still wine? Yes, there are still wines, which are the result of a specific production process. In addition, it is recommended that these types of wines are preserved through the use of  wine cellars , to guarantee storage without thermal fluctuations or direct light.

Still wine: what is it?

The peculiarity of still wine is in the fermentation. And is that unlike other wines, in still wine fermentation occurs naturally by yeasts, which are what transform the grape juice into wine .

Likewise, this wine has an alcohol percentage that is between 8.5% and 14%. By having a very low presence of carbonic gases, still wines do not have bubbles.

Also, did you know that contrary to what happens with children, most wines are “still”? A fact that shows its relevance in the market.

What types of still wines are there?

Still wines can be subdivided into 4 different types, depending on their sugar levels:

  1. Semi-sweet wines : they are those that contain between 30 and 50 grams of sugar per liter of wine.
  2. Sweet wines : with more than 50 grams of sugar per liter of wine. Not suitable for diabetics!
  3. Dry wines : these are the least sweet still wines. They have less than 5 grams of sugar per liter of wine.
  4. Semi-dry wines : with between 5 and 30 grams of sugar per liter of wine.

This division is especially useful for putting it into practice with both wine pairing and anti- pairing rules .

And nervous wine, does it exist?

We live in a world where there is black and white, hot and cold, good and bad. And, as we have seen, there are still wines. So, in effect, also the nervous.

Nervous wines are those sparkling, that is, wines with a high presence of carbon dioxide . You, what are you more of, calm or nervous wines?

Whether you are more suitable for one type of wine or another, there is a common point that is extrapolated to any type of wine: the importance of optimal storage conditions.
